Land Acknowledgement

The Western States 100-Mile Trail traverses the homelands of the Washoe and Nisenan. We acknowledge the painful history of dispossession and forced removal of Indigenous Peoples from their homelands, and we honor and respect the enduring relationship they have with the land. We recognize and respect their contributions – past, present, and future – and commit to uplifting their voices, experiences, and histories while also working together to build a better future. We ask all of you to treat the lands you visit with the same respect as those who have stewarded them for so many generations.
