Trail Work – Duncan Canyon or Red Star Ridge

Help us prepare the trail for this years events. This work will be performed in Duncan Canyon or Red Star Ridge, depending on weather, in conjunction with the Western States Trail Foundation (Tevis).

Expect to work a long hard day with a commute on foot of 6-10 miles round trip in steep terrain. Bring lunch, water, long sleeve shirt, long pants, sturdy boots, gloves, and weather appropriate clothing. We will provide hard hats and eye protection (if needed). This work will include moving vegetation, dirt, and/or rocks.

We will determine which location we will be working closer to the date. Meeting time will be 8:00AM at the Duncan Aid Station location, unless weather shifts our work sites.

We will send out more details 1 week prior.

Granite Chief Wilderness – Trail Work Weekend Campout (Saturday September 14th and Sunday September 15th)

Two-Day Volunteer Effort in Granite Chief Wilderness with Overnight Campout – Meet at the base of Palisades-Tahoe Tram (6,200 ft elevation) at 8:00AM, prepared for an overnight in the wilderness and 2 days of volunteer work.  Clothing must include long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy hiking/work boots (6” high or greater), work gloves, and eye protection.  Hard hats and tools will be provided.  You may have to carry tools in and out of the wilderness. Please bring a backpack with everything you need for a night in the wilderness (sleeping bag, optional tent/tarp, extra clothing, and food for 1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, and snacks).  Cooking facilities and potable water will be available, but bring your own plate, cup, and silverware.

You will either hike 6 miles (2,500 ft elevation gain), or take the Tram to High Camp and walk 3 miles, to our Head Waters Middle Fork Camp Site.  You will drop your overnight gear at camp or at another location and proceed to your work site.  We will work a full day on the trail, return to camp for dinner and sleep, and work a second day on the trail before returning to the base of Palisades-Tahoe. We will be working at elevations between 7,000 ft and 8,500 ft., so please keep that in mind.

Although the commute to work will be fairly long and strenuous, and the work will be moderately hard to hard, particularly considering the elevation, the work will also be satisfying (you will learn a lot, and will be helping build what will be a spectacular trail), and the views will be incredible. And we should have time to socialize at camp before retiring for the night.

We will send out confirming information and any changes to logistics prior to the camp-out trail work weekend.
